I’m Allison MacAlister.
Call me Allie!
I’m a professional illustrator living in Ottawa, Canada.
I began drawing as soon as I could hold a crayon, and I’ve never stopped. From painting the windows of my childhood home at holidays, to drawing comics of my friends and I in high school, to beginning my love affair with digital art media in my late teens, art has and always will be a huge part of my life.
In 2009 I started a small hobby business focusing on artwork and products for pet owners, animal rescues and pet-centric businesses. The business quickly grew, and work of varying styles and themes were coming at me left and right. By 2013 I was able to make the scary-but-exciting move to a full-time illustration career.
On any given day, I am:
- working on a number of freelance contracts
- creating commissioned portraits & illustrations for individual clients
- filling up yet another sketchbook
- making/selling handmade art goods through Etsy and local craft show venues
- creating unique and fun content for my social media, blog, YouTube channel and Patreon page
Along with illustration, my repertoire includes comics/sequential artwork, periodic graphic design work and desktop publishing for various local companies. I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating on my first children’s book publication, and am currently illustrating freelance with the Canadian Red Cross. I am constantly looking to expand my experience and skillset with new and different ventures.
In my personal work, I am heavily influenced by fantasy, mythology, fandom subcultures and comics. I am a geek at heart.
Pros: Delivers efficiently. Wide range of skills. Attentive to detail. Accepting and mindful of constructive criticism. Ofttimes sickeningly cheerful.
Hobbies: Drawing. Knitting. Gardening. Baking. Beermaking. Biking and swimming (tax paid for the the baking and beermaking). Spending time with my wonderful partner and pets.
Superpowers: Perpetual Idea Machine. Fast learner. That cheerfulness thing.
